There could be extra alarming Facebook headlines within the works — and the corporate is seemingly steeling itself for that probability.
In accordance with a submit obtained by Axios, Fb’s Vice President of International Affairs Nick Clegg instructed staffers Saturday that “we have to metal ourselves for extra unhealthy headlines within the coming days, I am afraid.” Clegg warned that the brand new protection would probably “comprise mischaracterizations of our analysis, our motives and the place our priorities lie,” and instructed staff to “pay attention and be taught from criticism when it’s honest, and push again strongly when it isn’t,” per Axios. “However, above all else,” the VP wrote, “we must always preserve our heads held excessive and do the work we got here right here to do.”
The social community has been decimated by detrimental press as of late, after former worker and whistleblower Frances Haugen leaked damning inner firm paperwork to each Congress and The Wall Street Journal, alleging the corporate is aware of and ignores the hurt it causes, and chooses to develop “in any respect prices.” Since then, in line with Axios, a bunch of 17 news retailers have come collectively to type the “Fb Consortium” and report on those self same leaked paperwork, now dubbed “The Facebook Papers.” The Journal just isn’t a part of the consortium.
The group’s organizers reportedly “aimed to amplify findings from the leaked paperwork by having many news organizations report on them concurrently, creating a giant splash,” writes Axios, probably explaining this weekend’s Facebook news dump. And sadly for CEO Mark Zuckerberg, sources mentioned the general public can anticipate “way more reporting primarily based off the paperwork within the coming days and weeks.”
