Fayette County priest jailed for sexually abusing altar boys – CBS Pittsburgh

HARRISBURG (KDKA) — A Fayette County priest accused of years of sexually abusing an acolyte has been sentenced to prison.
Andrew Kawecki was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison after prosecutors said he assaulted an 11-year-old altar boy in 2004 until he was 14.

The victim came forward and told investigators Kawecki molested him in the back room of St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Fairchance, where the priest was preparing for mass. Kawecki was charged in 2020.
Kawecki was identified but not named in the state’s grand jury report on clergy sex abuse in 2018. From 1980 to 2019 he served in 15 different congregations in the Diocese of Greensburg.

After his release from prison, Kawecki has to register as a sex offender.
