The 1-0 win boosted their chances to top Europa League Group E.

But a hilarious moment appears to show Ronaldo attempting to do away with McTominay’s low end.

Jadon Sancho twisted and turned in the box before deflecting the ball to the academy graduate, who took a touch before firing past the inspired Francis Uzoho.

Ronaldo was right on the last defender’s shoulder at the six-yard line when the ball went past him and into the net.

And almost instinctively, the Portuguese superstar, who scored his 700th club goal last weekend, raised his arm and glanced at the assistant referee before joining in the celebrations.

Ironically, there was not a single objection from Omonia defenders.

The bizarre move caught the attention of some confused fans on Twitter.

One said: “Did Ronaldo call for offside when McTominay scored?”

Another wrote: “Why is Ronaldo always offside when someone scores?”

A third joked: “Ronaldo has been found offside for not scoring the goal

Another user asked: “Is it me or is Ronaldo asking for offside? Which team does he play for?

And a last one commented: “No, Ronaldo asking for an offside instead of celebrating the goal is killing me.”

McTominay’s winner was United’s 34th shot of the night as the likes of Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Antony and especially Marcus Rashford failed to squirm past Red Devils supporter Uzoho.

The Scot became the first substitute to score in added time in a European game for the club since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won the 1999 Champions League final as a famous winner.
