The star smiled wryly, and some fans speculated that he was “missing Portugal’s old generation.”

The incident occurred during half-time in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Iceland.

Goals from Fernandes and Ricardo Horta secured another win for Roberto Martinez’s side.

But with Portugal struggling to capitalize on their chances in the first half, the players gathered in the tunnel for a pep talk before heading back onto the pitch.

Manchester United captain Fernandes and Man City defender Ruben Dias were involved in a tense discussion as their teammates looked on.

One of those who took it all in was national team captain Ronaldo, who now plies his trade in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr.

But the legendary striker looked amused as he watched the conversation between Fernandes and Dias.

And Ronaldo turned on his heel and grinned wryly as he walked out of the tunnel onto the pitch.

Fans were quick to notice his body language and facial expressions, with many assuming Ronnie is longing for the old days of international football.

One said: “You can see the goat misses the old generation.

“Diogo Dalot and Otavio are probably the only two from this generation that Cristiano is close to.

“We need Pepe back too, he’s a REAL one!”

Another explained: “People don’t listen anymore.”

One added: “Bruno thinks he’s the captain.”

But Portugal coach Martinez played down any talk of Ronaldo being unsure, saying: “Cristiano Ronaldo is as hungry as an 18-year-old player.”

“He is a role model, he always tries to be in the right position and looks for the goal.”
