Neville, 48, won eight Premier League titles during his 19-year career at Old Trafford.

And there was never any doubt about his work performance as the right-back was known for his tenacity on the pitch.

In fact, Neville has adopted that mentality post-gaming too, having become one of the country’s most popular pundits.

But maybe he went too far after apparently not knowing what a holiday is.

Neville erupted in laughter as he explained how he recharges with a weekend break every six weeks.

He prefers to “mini-retire” regularly rather than staying away for months.

And fans couldn’t help but laugh as they pointed out to Neville that what he was describing was a public holiday, leaving some wondering what pal Jamie Carragher would have to say about that.

Neville told it Diary of a CEO Podcast: “You can treat yourself to a mini-retirement all year long, and that’s what I tried to do.

“I’m not doing very well, so this weekend I’m going to Spain for example from Friday to Monday morning.

“I call this a mini-retirement. It’s a weekend, it’s a mini-retirement.

“Here I can basically say for three days I’m there and I’m basically taking it, I don’t think about work.

“And I will, sometimes the best ideas come to me on trips like this, but in six weeks I’ll have another short vacation for five or four days.

“Rather than thinking that you’re going to take a six-month hiatus and sort of go on a sabbatical, that’s probably not going to happen with people like you or me because, fundamentally, that’s just not how we work.

“That’s why I’ve tried to do a lot of mini-retirements over the course of the year over the past few years.”

Fans certainly found Neville’s comments hilarious. One said: “He’s just discovering what a holiday is.”

Another explained: “Haha why is he calling this mini-retirement?”

One remarked: “I hope Carragher is on to him.”

Another added: “Looking forward to my mini-retirement on Friday and then back to work on Monday.”
