Fans in stitches as commentator calls Bayern Munich defender ‘Upamaguire’ during disaster class against Man City

FANS have been let down after a commentator named Dayot Upamecano ‘Upamaguire’ – in a hilarious nod to the Manchester United captain.

Upamecano, 24, was hailed as one of the best defenders in world football ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League game against Man City.

The Frenchman showed a disastrous class in the first leg as City triumphed 3-0.

And his performance in the second leg last night, a 1-1 draw, was just as bad.

From the first whistle, Upamecano had trouble dealing with Erling Haaland’s physicality.

He received a direct red card for fouling the striker in the box, only to be saved by a close VAR call that showed the City star was marginally offside.

And Upamecano literally slipped later on when his feeble attempt to attack Haaland turned the Norwegian pocket into another goal for himself.

But one commentator couldn’t resist comparing Upamecano to Man Utd’s error-prone ace Maguire, with a joke that left fans in the lurch.

When Upamecano played the ball with five minutes remaining, the Arabic commentator said, “Upamaguire.”

Supporters found the incident absolutely hilarious, with many applauding the commentator’s cheeky name.

One said: “Wait, did the commenter ACTUALLY say upamaguire last night? This is top comedy.”

Another declared: “No way bro Upamaguire!”

One laughed: “He calls him Upamaguire, you gotta love those commentators.”

Another added: “It’s fair to say Upamaguire played a little badly tonight.”

Upamecano is in his second season at Bayern, joining from RB Leipzig for £37million in 2021.

Since then he has played 77 times and last season won the Bundesliga.

Upamecano has also become a regular for France and has won 14 caps since his debut in 2020.

And with Raphael Varane now retiring, he hopes to become Didier Deschamps’ first choice in defence.
