Fans are mourning the loss of a popular Aldi dessert as customers say it was like ‘throwing up confetti candy’

ALDI shoppers have called the bargain hunter after finding out a popular dessert will no longer be available in stores.

Aldi is a one-stop shop for shoppers looking for affordable prices on quality items.

Some Aldi products received high praise from shoppers and quickly became popular items in the store.

One such Aldi product was the Belmont Strawberry Piñata Cake.

While the dessert was purchased for many birthday celebrations, it also made a good sweet treat for any July 4th celebration.

Each cake featured a delicious combination of white cake, mousse, strawberry sauce, icing and an iconic candy confetti core.

The entire dessert was only $5.49 and served eight people.

Not only were shoppers delighted with the item for its taste, they were also impressed that the entire cake contained only candy colored with plant extracts, rather than using artificial food coloring or flavoring.

The cake may have been unorthodox to some, but many shoppers are still begging for the candy to return to stores.

One shopper commented that the treat looked “like it’s throwing out confetti candies,” but many felt it was an adorable part of the iconic cake.

Those who bought the cake for special occasions were generally impressed with the innovation behind the cake, but admitted they probably wouldn’t try it unless it was for a holiday or birthday.

“There are certain things the average person sees at Aldi, says ‘That’s clever’ and then goes on to get milk and eggs,” said an Aldi fan in Aldi Reviewer.

“I would imagine Aldi’s version of a strawberry pinata cake would fit into that category for a lot of people. That was true of our family; We walked by it for weeks with little smiles and comments about how interesting it was.”

“It’s not particularly large, but if you’re looking for something different and something festive, you can whip up eight quite entertaining servings from this tasty strawberry dessert,” said the shopper at the end of his review.

With no indication the pie will be back anytime soon, some savvy customers have theorized how to recreate the pinata dessert yourself.

All you have to do is bake two layers of vanilla cake, cutting out a spot in the middle of each layer for the strawberry sauce and mousse.

To prepare a homemade mouse, you can puree strawberries with sugar, and then mix them with whipped cream.

Once the layers are assembled, all that’s left to do is add candy and sprinkles to the center and glaze the cake to your heart’s content.

OTHER EXHIBITED PRODUCTS

The disappearance of the pinata cake isn’t the first time Aldi has gotten rid of a fan favorite without explanation.

A breakfast staple, the Fit & Active Whole Wheat Waffles, also disappeared from shelves this year, and shoppers are mourning the loss.

“We absolutely loved the multigrain waffles,” shared one Redditor. “They had good flavor and didn’t get soggy. The new ones just don’t have that good texture.”

Other shoppers were horrified to find Mama Cozzi’s Mexican take & bake pizza had disappeared down the aisles.

The take-and-bake option featured a mix of taco-seasoned beef, peppers, black olives, and onions for toppings.

In April 2023, the pizza was gone and Aldi officially confirmed the discontinuation.

“I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it has been discontinued and there are no plans to bring it back,” Aldi said on Twitter at the time.

And another popular candy, Benton’s Fudge Mint Cookies, was also pulled from stores and sorely missed by Girl Scout Thin Mints fans.

“Aldi gives, Aldi takes – Thin Mint cookies are dead,” shared one Redditor when the cookies were first discontinued.

Increase your savings at ALDI

While Aldi is already one of the cheaper grocery stores out there, there are ways to save even more on your weekly shopping spree.

The timing of your shopping trip can be particularly important.

While Wednesday is the day to snag the latest Aldi finds, some of the most popular and heavily discounted items can be snagged on Tuesday evening.

You can also shop online for pickup or delivery and still get access to discounts and price reductions for added convenience.

Customers with the Aldi app on their iPhone or Android get access to several additional perks.

The app offers weekly ads full of coupons with up-to-date lists of Aldi Finds items.

And should something go wrong with an Aldi purchase, remember that the store has a generous Twice as Nice returns policy.

You are guaranteed a replacement item and your money back on all returns.
