FANS feared Wayne Rooney was lost after showing up at Etihad to watch the two Prem clubs he most wanted to beat.
The Manchester United and Everton legend saw Man City KO Liverpool 3-2 in a Carabao Cup smash.
The only certainty is that the former England skipper hasn’t been Christmas shopping – as his two old Prem rivals are of course well out of the DC manager’s league for transfer targets.
And this fan nailed it: “WTF is Wayne Rooney doing here?!”
Another said: “Wayne Rooney lost or something?
The longest shot seemed to be this one: “Maybe Rooney is a Man City fan now.”
But that wasn’t the most intriguing suggestion.
An observer might recall that Rooney’s son Kai was spotted wearing a City hoodie last year – for which the United Academy whiz kid was teased by Old Trafford legend Rio Ferdinand.
The fan wrote: “For those who don’t know, his son is a City fan.
“So fair game for him, that’s actually he’s a good dad taking him to see City. I never thought I would say that about him, but this is such a moment indeed.”

Judging purely from the moment Rooney was pictured, he didn’t look particularly happy or excited to be there.
But just as he might on the pitch with the ball at his feet, he might break away in the stands at unpredictable moments.
He should have chatted though as Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s men were both looking good ahead of the Prem’s resumption at Christmas.
The second-placed city will have the longest wait before visiting Leeds on Wednesday.
Earlier on Monday, Liverpool travel to Aston Villa and Rooney’s old club Everton welcome Wolves.
Between those dates, Nottingham Forest goes to Old Trafford on Tuesday.
The Red Devils will appreciate their Carabao Cup chances even more after being drawn at home to League One Charlton in the quarter-finals.
The other three clashes are all-prem ties.
Southampton meet City, Forest are at Wolves and Newcastle meet Leicester at home.
