Family terrorized by 14ft great white shark that circled them for an hour

A FAMILY shared footage of their terrifying encounter with a giant great white shark that circled their boat for more than an hour.

David Tuckfield, his wife Tanya and their 14-year-old son Shelby were fishing when the big animal approached their vessel off the coast of Perth, Australia last Friday.

The video shows the shark, which is estimated to be 14 feet long, attempting to collect her catch – prompting screams from the woman on board.

The beast soon began circling the boat before fixing on the ship’s engine and chewing on it several times.

It wasn’t until more than an hour later that it finally decided to swim away when the family returned safely to shore.

Reflecting on the experience, boat owner David told 9 News: “We had a large visitor from deep, a beautiful white pointer.

“He tried to take a piece out of the engine, we were hypnotized.”

David said he goes fishing often but has never seen a shark this close to his boat or this size.

He added that it was the highlight of the family’s Easter vacation and described the shark as a “great majestic creature.”

He said: “We don’t value them until you see them up close and it’s their playground.”

Last month, chilling drone footage showed how hard it is to spot sharks roaming off the Australian coast while an animal appears invisible.

It comes after a British diving instructor was struck to death by a 15-foot great white shark just days before safety lines were installed in Australia.

Simon Nellist, 35, was killed by the predator just 150m from the beach at Buchan Point near Little Bay in Sydney in the first deadly attack in the area in almost 60 years.

Witnesses said they heard the victim frantically calling for help when the shark attacked in February.

The great white is said to have “attacked vertically” before pulling the man’s body out of the ocean.

Expert Lawrence Chlebeck said the wild shark likely mistook the swimmer – who was reportedly wearing a wetsuit – for a seal when he launched and attacked the Briton.

It came just three months after another Briton, Paul Millachip, was attacked and killed off the coast of Western Australia.

The 57-year-old was dragged underwater by a 14-foot white man as he was killed in front of his horrified family.
