Family friends of a 12-year-old girl who ‘stabbed a 9-year-old brother’ reveal startling details about the background to the murder

A 12-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of killing her nine-year-old brother.

Tulsa police responded to emergency calls from the family home in January, where they found the young boy stabbed to death.

“Officers learned the children’s parent was asleep upstairs when the 12-year-old daughter woke the parent and said she had stabbed her nine-year-old brother,” a Tulsa police spokesman told ABC.

“The nine-year-old male victim was taken to the hospital and operated on.”

Cops said the boy died during an operation.

Tulsa Police Department Chief Wendell Franklin tweeted about the incident: “All murders are tragic, but the second murder of 2023 in Tulsa highlights a definite societal issue.

“The question is how does society deal with a child who kills another child?”

The 12-year-old girl was taken into custody and is awaiting trial.

She remains at the Tulsa County Juvenile Justice Center, a top-security detention center for minors.

The police did not publish what they believe to be the motive for the stabbing.

Under Oklahoma state law, no one under the age of 13 can be tried as an adult.

“NO WARNING SIGNS”

A family friend, Jennifer Anthamatten, spoke to Tulsa News 6 about the devastation and how the family is traversing the unthinkable times.

“It’s very hard to see a friend go through that, it’s something you would never imagine happening to anyone in your life,” Anthamatten said.

She said the children’s mother, April, is struggling through the trauma.

Anthamatten said there was no indication of any tragedy originating from the family.

“There were no warning signs,” she said.

“It’s not like you want a troubled child, but when something like this happens unexpectedly, it’s just really hard when you don’t have answers as to why these things happened.”
