Family devastated as father and son went missing in Costa del Sol and are now being treated as a double homicide by UK police

COPS is treating the disappearance of a father and son as a double homicide three years after their disappearance.

Danny and Liam Poole went missing in April 2019 after being flown to the Spanish coast with £20,000 in luggage – believed to be part of a shady drug deal.

They checked into the Hotel Valle Romano in Estepona and met on January 1.

The last known sighting of Danny – who the family said was planning to buy a property on the Costa del Sol – came the next morning when he was caught on video camera leaving the Valle Romano alone by car.

Danny and Liam’s rental car was found two miles from their hotel a month after they disappeared.

Now British police have launched a double murder investigation – confirming her family’s worst fears.

Liam’s sister Lauryn Poole, 23, told The Mirror: “There are more bad days than good days now. On the bad days, I’d clung to the idea that maybe everyone was doing something wrong.

“There was hope, but now it’s gone. It’s brought a whole new level of sadness and I’m really struggling to accept it.

Liam’s mother Lisa Berwick, 46, added: “I knew it from the start but it still hurts to hear it.”

She says the police decision to treat it as a homicide is “progress” and hopes it will bring “answers and closure” to her family.

Spanish authorities closed the case just five months after the couple disappeared from the face of the earth.

The Sun previously told how Lisa and her family lived their worst nightmare when they received chilling ransom demands following Liam’s disappearance.

The message, addressed to Liam’s sister Lauryn, read: “If you want to see your father and brother alive again come to Tangier with £100,000. You have 24 hours.”

British detectives took 21-year-old beautician Lauryn to a hotel hideout, where she was wired in hopes of communicating with the “kidnappers.”

The family struggled to collect the ransom, while Lauryn spent a week notifying her father and brother’s apparent kidnappers to arrange the money delivery.

But then, after days of ominous silence, she received a startling second message that read, “Time’s up.”
