Comedian Bob Saget is was found dead on sunday in hotel room in Orlando, Florida. Police said there was no foul play or suspected drug use in his death. He is 65 years old.

Saget’s acting career spans decades on both the big screen and the small screen, but he is best known for his role as Danny Tanner on the hit TV show “Full House” and as the host of “The Big Ones” America’s funniest home video”.

From starting his career in Philadelphia to graduating from Temple University, Saget’s Philly roots are deep.

Here are a few things that you may or may not know about hybrid comedy icon Philly.

Born, raised and educated in Philly

Saget, full name Robert Lane Saget, was born in Philadelphia on May 17, 1956, and graduated from Abington High School in 1974.

He credits his former mentor, Elaine Zimmerman, for much of his comedy success.

“I can say that she is one of the biggest influencers in my life so far,” citation field Saget said. “I used to show her the Super 8mm movies I made and got her hooked with my ‘creative’ writing, and she advised me not to go to college as a graduate student. but learn to be a comedian.”

Temple and temple pride

Saget is a graduate of Temple University, where he won the 1978 Student Academy Award for a film he made.

The school released a statement saying:

“Temple University is saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Saget, an incredibly loyal alumnus and member of the University community… Saget will always be remembered as one of the funniest Owls of all time. great of the Temple.”

NBC10’s Randy Gyllenhaal reported on the sudden death of TV comedy icon Bob Saget from outside the Keswick Theater in Glenside, where Saget will perform later this year. The actor, known for playing Danny Tanner in “Full House” and the family-friendly stand-up comedy, graduated from high school from nearby Abington and would later attend Temple University.

His jokes are not always rated PG

Despite being considered one of the loveliest dads on television, Saget’s jokes sometimes skew towards the malevolent side.

In 2005, Saget turned his head after telling what many called the world’s dirtiest joke in the documentary, “The Nobles”. The film stars more than 100 stand-up comedians and explores whether a joke can lose its appeal if the audience already knows the story well.

The answer: an incredible no.

Comedians – and singers?

Saget surprised viewers when revealed as the Ugly Monster singing in Season 4 of “The Masked Singer”.

Prior to his debut, the show hinted that he was “a father figure and a scoundrel.”

He may have been fooled by fans, but not the judges identified him by his vocals, and of course, his jokes.

Bob Saget’s loved ones and celebrity friends are mourning his sudden loss after the “Full House” star passed away Sunday at the age of 65.
