‘Extremely impressive’ – Lee Dixon full of praise for Arsenal’s new signing and draws interesting comparisons with the Chelsea star

Before Arsenal full-back Lee Dixon highly rated one of their summer signings and even drew comparisons to his opposite figure from Chelsea.

In one interview with Sportsmail, Dixon gave many compliments to Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is having a good campaign with the Gunners since arriving from Bologna.

With the exception of his COVID-related absence from the last game, the Japan international has played in all 15 other top-flight matches, starting in round XI each.

His fighting nature, both on and off the ball, added tremendous momentum to the team, while displaying excellent game reading with an average of 2.5 shots.

Dixon also suggested that Tomiyasu build a great partnership with White Ben for any success at the club. He say:

“I think he [Tomiyasu] definitely took an eye, no doubt about that. But you won’t be here giving me a eulogy like Wrighty about positions he doesn’t even know about!

“I’m joking! He’s right to sing praises to Tomiyasu because he’s been outstanding. He certainly doesn’t have the stature of a typical full-back. Having said that, [Marcos] Alonso [at Chelsea] tall and similar in stature to him. “

Dixon praised Tomiyasu’s linked play in midfield and his aerial ability but added that there was room for improvement in some respects. He say:

“He’s very good at moving with the ball. His linking play with midfield and forward is fantastic. He’s an excellent up-and-down athlete, and he’s fantastic.

“He still has some work to do like defending and playing his position. But that’s like most full-backs I’m looking at. That will come with time, and will build a relationship. with Ben White.”

Tomiyasu operates in the same position as Lauren, who was once a key figure in Arsenal’s ‘Invincible’ squad but Dixon stops short of comparing the two.

“I’ve got a deep knowledge of him, but I’m not at the training ground with Tomiyasu and I don’t see him every day, but what I’ve seen so far on match day is extremely impressive.”

Tomiyasu is likely to miss Arsenal’s New Year’s Day match against City of Manchester on January 1, 2022 and will remain isolated.
