Explosion caused by gas leak injures 2 workers at US steel plant near Detroit – CBS Pittsburgh

ECORSE, Mich. (AP) — An explosion caused by a gas leak injured two workers Wednesday at a U.S. Steel Corp plant. in suburban Detroit, officials said.
The Pittsburgh-based company confirmed that both of the injured were employees. The problem occurred at the plant’s main boiler at Great Lakes Works in Ecorse.

Amanda Malkowski, a spokeswoman for the company, said in an email: “At this time, there do not appear to be any life-threatening injuries. “We are currently assessing the situation and will provide updates as they become available. We thank the local fire crews for their support.”
Narda Bruno, the city’s director of public safety, said both workers suffered minor injuries and have been released from the hospital.

Bruno said the explosion was introduced into the plant’s main boiler.
Bruno said daily operations continue at the facility in the meantime.
