The 51-year-old former WWE star will also have an increased behind-the-scenes role at AEW, serving as a producer and creative consultant.

Khan, CEO, GM and Head of Creative of AEW, said: “Chris Jericho cemented his legacy as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time long ago and we are fortunate to share his skill, charisma, knowledge and insight to have AEW for years to come.

“Chris has discovered a fountain of youth this year and he’s having some of the very best matches of his legendary career against some of the top names in wrestling.

“As his responsibilities expand, he will continue to serve as a valuable leader while giving our roster the opportunity to employ one of the most creative minds in wrestling history.”

Jericho remains one of the biggest names in wrestling and was one of the original stars to help launch the promotion in 2019.

Speaking to Variety about his deal, Y2J said, “Jericho had a simple answer as to why he chose to stay with AEW and signed this renewal.

“I think the simple answer is ‘Why not?’ Things are going so well at the company and I really feel like this is my company. It’s kind of tattooed on my heart.

“I’ve been here since day one and there’s really no reason not to be here to keep going.”

Jericho continued, “When AEW started, I think it was Chris Jericho and a group of very talented people who might not have been that well known.

“In three months that changed, and now in three years we’ve had at least a dozen, maybe two dozen of our own homegrown stars who have come out on AEW TV.”

“I have this freedom to be creative, to just do whatever I think will work. I really never had that.

“I don’t have to care about other people’s opinions. Of course Tony Khan does chime in from time to time, but it’s really just an open canvas to just paint the pictures I want to paint and that’s so much more fun.”
