Ex-Sun Man Charlie Catchpole has passed away peacefully at the age of 76

Ex-sun man Charlie Catchpole has died aged 76 – with TV’s Piers Morgan among those paying tribute to a ‘brilliant’ journalist.

Born in Norwich, Charlie who died peacefully worked for several national newspapers and is best known as a scathing television columnist.

Proud of his birthplace, he once quoted Lord Nelson as saying: “I am a man of Norfolk, and I boast that I am.”

Morgan said: “Brilliant TV critic, Fleet Street legend and charming, hilarious company. Sad news.”

TV presenter and Sun columnist Jane Moorewho has worked with Charlie said, “Charlie had a famously sharp wit and a sense of humor that his readers loved.

“Last time I saw him, his brain was as sharp as a thumbtack.”

He is survived by his children and his wife Cynthia.
