Ex-Prime Minister Liz Truss reignites bitter Tory civil war as she defends attempt to cut taxes

FORMER Prime Minister Liz Truss reignited a bitter Tory civil war last night as she defended her attempt to cut taxes.
MPs are gearing up for her first major TV interview tonight after she launched her political comeback with a 4,000-word broadside in the Sunday Telegraph.

In thinly veiled digs at her successor, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, she insisted that her grand economic plan was never given a chance and that she was forced out of office too soon.
Her return to frontline politics, in which she criticized business orthodoxy and timid officials, sparked a furious dispute among Tories.
Ex-Tory leader Jake Berry told BBC Truss he was right to advocate for tax cuts as that’s what people wanted.
But Mr Sunak’s allies hit back, saying her approach was “clearly” wrong and Liz failed to apologize for her part in the economic collapse.
Business Secretary Grant Shapps warned tax cuts would now “rub against reality”: Britain’s huge war debt in Covid and Ukraine.
He insisted, “You have to be in charge … you have to get down to basics first.”
Ex-Chancellor George Osborne has said the former Prime Minister’s defense was “nonsense”, telling Channel 4: “She has made every effort not to listen.
Tory MP Alicia Kearns added: “The best and most polite way to say it would be – the memories are different.”
