Ex-NBA star thinks he knows why Ja Morant keeps getting drug tested and fans agree

Former NBA star Isaiah Thomas has joked that Ja Morant keeps getting tested on drugs for “jumping too high,” citing the Memphis Grizzlies guard’s stunning form.
Morant, 23, claimed he was screened for illegal substances for the seventh time this season after Monday’s 136-106 win over the Phoenix Suns.

Morant recorded 29 points and seven assists, going 5-for-8 (62.5%) from beyond the arc to lead the Grizzlies to a win over the Suns.
The game came after the former No. 2 had two outrageous dunks the week before.
The guard first posterized Jakob Poeltl, a 7-foot-1 San Antonio Spurs center with a one-handed jam.
He then did the same with Indiana Pacers big man Jalen Smith, presenting a strong contender for Dunk of the Year.

While Morant keeps pouring buckets and coming up with highlight games, the NBA apparently feels obligated to make sure he’s not on performance-enhancing drugs.
“I’ve been drug tested about six times this season. I went to the arena and found out I got another one today,” he tweeted the day after the Grizzlies defeated the Suns.
A few hours later, Thomas retweeted Morant’s tweet and joked that he might know why the league continues to harass the former Murray State standout.
“Jump to high Killa!” wrote the former Boston Celtics star.
“It’s not real what we see lol. Well it’s real in your world haha.”
And NBA fans agreed with Thomas when commenting on Morant’s tweet.
One wrote: “[The drug tests] are basically MVP votes. It’s a compliment in the most backward of ways. Still, a compliment.”
Another tweeted, “The price of being great.”
A third added: “It has to be flattering though. You’re so crazy they think you’re into drugs.”
And another wrote: “They said the way he jumps he’s either jumping on something or hot springs in his shoes.”
Morant’s spectacular dunks seem to have given the young guard a lot of confidence.
“Jump with me if you want to go viral,” the Grizzlies All-Star tweeted after his one-jam slam against the Pacers.
Morant is averaging 27.5 points, 7.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds in 36 games in 2022-23.
