Former Manchester United ace Marcos Rojo has been hit with a bizarre suspension in Argentina after being sent off for a horror challenge.
Boca Juniors captain Rojo, 32, took part in his team’s 1-0 win over rivals River Plate at the Bombonera last week.
However, the centre-back was sent off in the seventh minute of added time with just seconds to go after a dangerous tackle on Nicolas de la Cruz.
De la Cruz tried a header in defence, and the Argentina international came up with a lofty challenge that nearly hit him in the head.
The referee didn’t think twice, showed the 32-year-old the red card and gave him the marching orders.
The Argentine FA then imposed a one-game ban on Rojo, preventing him from playing at Lanus on Thursday.
But those in power didn’t stop there as they also imposed a bizarre punishment that disallowed him from wearing the Boca armband for a month.
That means he is unlikely to captain the Argentine giants until October 12, when they take on Sarmiento.
The defender didn’t seem too upset after his red card as he claimed Superclasico always gets ‘a bit too much’.
Rojo said, “It doesn’t bother me. The classics are like that, they’re getting a little too much.

“I made three fouls in the whole game, we didn’t make that many fouls, we made some tactical fouls, it’s not like we had an aggressive play or weird things.
“They played like that and everything was fine, they partied and now that we’ve done it a bit, it bothers us.
“We’re calm with the things we did, how we approached the game and how we won it.”
Rojo joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 after some impressive performances at the World Cup with Argentina, who made it to the final.
The Argentine spent seven years at Old Trafford but struggled to stand out which is why he was also loaned to Estudiantes in 2020.
The former Spartak Moscow ace has two goals and four assists in 122 games with the Red Devils.
