A MUM and her son were brutally stabbed to death by her violent ex-boyfriend, who today pleaded guilty to the tragic couple’s murder.
Daniel Boulton, 30, allegedly stabbed 26-year-old Bethany Vincent and 9-year-old son Darren “DJ” Henson “multiple times” at their home in Louth, Lincs.
He then led police on a 24-hour manhunt before being reported to have stabbed a duty officer in the leg as they tried to arrest him.
Bolton pleaded guilty today to two counts of manslaughter, but denied killing his mother and son in 2020.
He also pleaded guilty to assaulting PC Stephen Dennis with intent to resist arrest the day after the murder and burglary of an empty home in Hubbards Hill, Louth.
A jury at Lincoln Crown Court must now decide whether he is guilty of double murder, as Boulton claims he was suffering from a mental health condition at the time of the crime.
The court heard that Bethany had a restraining order against Boulton at the time of her death after complaining to police in November 2019.
Another restraining order came after another incident in February 2021 but Boulton continued to visit Bethany’s home and text her, it was said.
Jurors were told social services were involved in the family after Bethany first reported Boulton about the domestic violence in November 2020.
He was ordered not to contact his ex, but “repeatedly broke” the order, sending her nearly 900 Facebook messages the weekend before the attack.
Prosecutor Katherine Goddard QC told the court he also developed a “hate” with Darren, who has autism.
He also threatened to “wipe out” her family’s bloodline before unleashing a ferocious attack.
On the day of the attack, he walked 28 miles to her home and he repeatedly stabbed the couple.
Police found Bethany lying in the front room and Darren on the floor of his bedroom, with both stab wounds and traumatic injuries.
The family planned to move to an address Boulton didn’t know about just days after the attack.
A nine-month-old baby was also found crawling around the house alone, “obviously distressed” but unharmed.
After launching a callous attack, Boulton calmly left the scene before spending the night on the run.
He broke into an empty house where he stole some wine, clothes and food and left a note saying “I, Daniel Boulton, take full responsibility”.
The next day, he was spotted by officer on duty Stephen Dennis, who tried to arrest him but was stabbed in the leg.
He fled PC Dennis, but was later cornered in a warehouse and assigned after attempting to get several armed officers to shoot him, the court said.
Mrs Goddard told the jury that it was “not without question” that he stabbed both victims, but he claimed he was “significantly impaired by a recognized mental condition”. ability to make sound judgments and self-control”.
The trial continued.
