Fans feared the worst after seeing former Spain star Costa wince during treatment and then clutched his head as he walked away on a stretcher.

The 34-year-old had suffered serious knee injuries in the past.

Some supporters on social media lacked sympathy for the controversial hardman.

Others, however, reacted with concern at the “agony” he appeared to be in as he was rocked without apparent firm contact in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

One wrote: “Looks like a bad knee injury. We may have seen Costa in a Wolves shirt for the last time.”

And when another suggested it could be an ACL injury, the response was: “That or Achilles… looked like a non-contact.”
