Who is Kara Robinson Chamberlain?

Kara Robinson Chamberlain is an attack survivor by a serial killer and sex offender named Richard Evonitz.

She was watering plants in a friend’s front yard in Columbia, South Carolina, when she was approached by a well-dressed man who said he had some pamphlets to leave for the family.

After approaching her, he put a gun to her neck and forced her into a storage container in his trunk.

This is where Kara’s instincts kicked in and she stayed calm, methodically counting the revolutions he was taking and memorizing the songs being played and the brand of cigarettes he was smoking.

What happened to Kara Robinson Chamberlain?

The man took Kara back to his apartment, where he assaulted her for 18 hours.

She managed to stay sane and tried to identify him.

She memorized the names of his doctor and dentist from the letters on his refrigerator.

She also managed to gain his trust enough to put him to sleep by offering to help him – she ended up sweeping his floor.

Kara waited until he fell asleep and she could free herself from her bonds and sneak out the door.

She ran to the manager’s office, where they called the police.

When police arrived, their kidnapper was gone, but based on evidence found at his home, they were able to determine he was headed for Sarasota, Florida.

They were also able to link him to several other missing persons cases.

They caught him in Sarasota, where he eventually took his own life when cornered.

Kara Robinson Chamberlain married and had two sons.

Today, she is a motivational speaker who shares her story with groups across the United States to empower others.

A film based on Kara’s experience, The Girl Who Escaped: The Kara Robinson Story, will air lifespan on February 11, 2023 at 7 p.m.

She is also working on creating a podcast where she will host other survivors.
