IT is a grotesque affront to our democracy.
The immigration policies of this supposedly sovereign nation – our newly won post-EU independence only two years ago – have been shattered by the hasty, late-night verdict of a judge in a foreign court. And yet it’s even worse.
Because the European Court of Human Rights will not even identify the person whose pen penned the strategy of our elected government and the trumped judgments of our Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
That can’t stand. It must be the death knell for the ECtHR in Britain.
This, and years of other insane decisions against the will and interests of our people, was NOT what Churchill envisioned when he erected it as a Nazi-style bulwark against fascism.
We have to give up this Euro Court and its convention. We can enshrine everything positive in it in a new Bill of Rights.
But our government MUST be able to control our borders. . . to deport foreign criminals and illegal economic migrants.
Those we elect must exercise that power. Not left-wing lawyers, clueless churchmen and no-border campaigners (one a Labor candidate, of course) across our liberal courts.
And certainly not just any Strasbourg judge.
This is the political minefield that Boris Johnson must now negotiate.
Millions will support him to succeed, just as they did when we broke free from the EU.
In 2018, 299 migrants arrived illegally in small boats. On Tuesday alone, 444 did so, since we were forbidden to deport just one. The locks are open.
This madness has to end.
KEIR OH LOVE
KEIR Starmer is lucky most voters don’t see PM’s questions.
Yesterday they would have seen the sad despair of Labour’s notoriously boring leader reciting scripted gags about Star Wars and Love Island.
The grim faces on his front seat said it all.
But his attempt to get Tory backbenchers to brand Boris a “conservative Corbyn” was bizarre.
We wouldn’t have a problem with him poking fun at his predecessor’s voter-chilling uselessness. . . if Starmer had not campaigned to make the anti-Semitic clown Prime Minister.
The public has not forgotten.
FOUR months into the war, Russia’s appalling brutality still has the power to shock.
As we report today, banned cluster bombs have maimed hundreds of innocent people in the city of Kurakhov alone.
War crimes, proven beyond dispute.
But the cold reality is that Putin and his murderous fascist hordes don’t care about the conventions of war.
It’s depressing that so many in Europe now want a quick deal, even if Ukraine has to give up territory.
No! We must not waver in supporting President Zelenskyy.
Evil must not reap any reward.
