Erling Haaland could break Shearer and Cole’s Premier League goals record ahead of MID-WAY point in the season

ERLING HAALAND is on track to break the Premier League record of 34 goals in a single season by January.

The Manchester City superstar netted a remarkable third hat-trick in eight league games on Sunday as the champions defeated rivals Manchester United 6-3 at the Etihad.

How Haaland’s season might compare to Shearer, Cole and Salah’s record-breaking campaigns

That brings the Norwegian to 17 this season – including 14 in eight Prem appearances.

Haaland’s stunning start means he averages 1.75 league goals per game.

At that rate he is on track to wiping out the previous record for most goals in a single Prem campaign – currently held by Andy Cole – who scored the feat of 34 goals for Newcastle in 1993/94 – and Alan Shearer – who did that Blackburn did the same the following year.

Haaland’s predicted total is a pretty ridiculous 67 GOALS.

And if he scores 1.75 goals per game, the record-breaking 35th will be scored at Old Trafford against Man Utd on January 14.

To do this, City’s postponed games with Tottenham and Arsenal would have to be postponed until then.

If so, it would make the trip to United the champions’ 20th game of the campaign – where Haaland is calculated to outperform Cole and Shearer.

Should just one of Arsenal or Tottenham’s games be postponed before January 14, Haaland would likely break the home record against Wolves on January 21.

And if no one is postponed by then, it should eclipse the record on February 4th at Spurs.

Haaland is miles ahead of Shearer and Cole’s record-breaking tally after eight games.

During this phase of Cole’s 34-goal campaign, he had hit the net just five times.

Shearer had managed one more than Cole, but that’s still less than half of Haaland’s stunning 14.

A more modern example is Mo Salah’s 32-goal Premier League season in 2017/18.

The Egyptian had just four goals after eight games.

Everything points to Haaland set to break the goalscoring record in his first-ever Premier League spell.
