Erik Ten Hag ‘wants Man Utd manager with club ties’ with Van Persie, Stam and Van Nistelrooy all under consideration

ERIK TEN HAG reportedly wants a Dutch manager with Manchester United ties if he takes the job at Old Trafford.

The Ajax manager, 52, is the new favorite to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent successor.

He had an interview with the Red Devils this week and is said to be making plans if he is the successful candidate.

And according to The Times, Ten Hag would want to add a former United player to his back room.

They would instill wisdom and understanding of what it means to be at the club – and have a ‘bond’ with squad, staff and fans.

The report names Dutchman Ten Hag’s compatriot trio Robin van Persie, Jaap Stam and Ruud van Nistelrooy as possible candidates.

Feyenoord assistant Van Persie has the same agent as Ten Hag, while ex-Reading boss Stam is reportedly reluctant to return to coaching.

Van Nistelrooy, meanwhile, is set to be promoted from Jong PSV to become senior team head coach if Roger Schmidt leaves.

Ten Hag stunned Tottenham by only planning to take one staffer, then-assistant Sjors Ultee, to north London.

Ultee left Ten Hag and Ajax to take over the coaching job from Fortuna Sittard so his new No2 Mitchell van der Gaag would be alongside him in the Old Trafford dugout – as well as possibly Darren Fletcher or even Ralf Rangnick.

However, he appears to have learned from that Spurs interview with his new plans – and by taking English classes.

Ten Hag impressed at Monday’s formal meeting.

But the club are still considering Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui, all three of whom are also set to be interviewed.

Any Thomas Tuchel pursuit could prove a dead end despite the chaos at Chelsea as the German is on course to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Should Ten Hag win the fight, United would likely have to pay Ajax around £4million in compensation.
