AJAX coach Erik ten Hag is said to be ‘desperate’ to speak to Manchester United after being ‘hit by a middleman’.

The Red Devils are looking for a long-term replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick prepares to move upstairs this summer.

Dutchman Ten Hag and former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino of Paris Saint-Germain are the two men most linked with the vacancy.

And United could get Poch for nothing if he is sacked by PSG after they took a two-goal lead to knock Real out of the Champions League last night.

However, Sky Sports have now provided their own update on the potential next manager by claiming Ten Hag has been ‘recognized’ by United through an intermediary.

They claim that there is still no official contact between the Old Trafford team and Ajax.

But they report that the 52-year-old ‘would be keen to speak’ to United if they made an official approach.

The two clubs have a good relationship with United legend Edwin van der Sar is currently the chief executive officer of the Dutch giants.

Ten Hag has only contract until the end of the season and is currently focused on leading Ajax, who are leading by two points, to the title.

He has led Ajax since December 2017 after moving from Utrecht and guided them to a double in both 2019 and 2021.

Ten Hag also coached the reserve team of Bayern Munich as well as the Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands.
