And his long-term future in west London is no longer certain.

New United boss Ten Hag is aware of the 23-year-old’s predicament and United’s interest has already been registered with the player camp.

Ten Hag first became aware of Mount’s abilities when he impressed on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland as a teenager.

The Old Trafford boss has been following his progress closely since then and it’s believed he would jump at the opportunity to lure him to the North West if given the chance.

Liverpool and Manchester City have already discreetly asked about the academy graduate if he has decided to take his mind off Chelsea.

Despite being named the London club’s player of the year for the second time, Mount is one of the lowest paid in the squad at Stamford Bridge.

He has two years left on his existing £88,000-a-week contract.

But the need for the Blues to completely rebuild their defense this summer has seen his contract talks landed on the priority list.

The problem for Chelsea is that the closer he gets to the final year of his contract, other big clubs are making it clear they want to snap him up.

Barcelona are another team watching closely.

And Mount’s position in the negotiations with the Blues has strengthened massively in recent months.

However, despite the problems with his contract, Mount insists he is looking forward to next season with the Blues.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s an exciting time now that the owners are confirmed. It will be exciting in the future.

“The era under Roman [Abramovich] was awesome, now we are happy. It’s exciting, I can’t wait to get back to it.”
