Erik ten Hag is hoping to stay on as Man Utd boss in the long term amid fears he could be replaced once the £6billion takeover is complete

ERIK TEN HAG hopes he gets a chance to remain Manchester United boss in the long term as a takeover looms.

The club’s Supporters Trust (MUST) raised some concerns about the two bids to take over the club – but stressed the Dutch boss must stay.

Ten Hags Red Devils continued their impressive progress on the pitch – despite a first half that the manager described as ‘rubbish’ and ‘a mess’.

Marcus Rashford’s two goals took his tally to 24 for the season and put United firmly in the title race.

However, their long-term future is shrouded in uncertainty as Qatar’s Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim both submitted bids over the weekend.

When asked about MUST’s statement, Ten Hag said: “I thank the fans for putting their trust in me. I feel committed to this club

“I like being here, but it’s not in my sphere of influence. What I can influence is the performance of this team and I will do everything to keep going.

“We are connected to this club, it’s our club, in our heart – but it’s not our job.

“We’re focused on football and performing and that’s what the players and staff have to do.”

United shrugged off a lackluster first half to ensure they go into a big week on a high note.

Ten Hag admitted his side were fortunate to lead at the break, saying: “We have to follow the rules and principles of how we play. If we don’t. it becomes a mess.

“We were really lucky to be up by a goal at half-time – a great pass from Bruno [Fernandes]great finish by Rashy [Rashford]. But the rest is garbage.”

Rashford struck both sides of the break and was also involved in the third goal scored by fellow Englishman Jadon Sancho.

The striker has now had his most productive season for United, saying: “It’s still early in the season, we’re fighting for a lot of different things.

“There is always something to look forward to and I have no desire to slow down. I always try to improve myself.”

Referring to a title challenge, Rashford said: “We’re there, we’re close, but at the same time both teams in front of us are really good teams and play good football.

“We just have to focus on ourselves, do our best and keep scoring.”

Leicester were disappointed they had nothing to show from a brilliant opening – but Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers felt there was a key moment in the first half.

United’s new boy Marcel Sabitzer somehow got away with impunity for an X-rated challenge against Wout Faes.

Rodgers said: “It’s a sending off, a straight leg to the knee like it wasn’t seen is unbelievable.

“I do not know why. Someone said it was after an incident, but I don’t think so.”
