There they discovered the bodies of Emma Pattison (45), her daughter Lettie (7) and her husband George (39).
The police assume that it is an isolated case without the involvement of third parties.
Principal Emma has been described as a “wonderful teacher” and a “lovely” person.
In her most recent social media post, she celebrated a prestigious award won by the school shortly after she took the helm.
The Epsom College community has been shaken by the ‘traumatic’ loss.
Detective Chief Inspector Kimball Edey said yesterday: “On behalf of Surrey Police, my team and myself, I would first like to express my sincere condolences to the friends and family of Emma, Lettie and George, as well as to the students and staff at Epsom College for their tragic loss Loss.
“I want to assure that we will be conducting a thorough investigation into what happened last night and hope to bring some peace to these traumatic circumstances. I would ask that your privacy be respected at this very difficult time.”
SCHOOL HORROR
Inspector Jon Vale, Borough Commander of Epsom and Ewell, added: “We are aware that this tragic incident will have caused concern and excitement in the local community.
“While this is believed to be an isolated case, our local officers will remain in the area over the coming days to provide reassurance for students, parents, teachers and the local community.
“I would like to thank the school and community for their understanding and patience while the investigation continues.”
dr Alastair Wells, Chair of the Board of Governors at Epsom College, wrote: “On behalf of everyone at Epsom College, I would like to express our deepest shock and disbelief at this tragic news.
“Our immediate thoughts and condolences go out to Emma’s family, friends and loved ones, as well as the many students and colleagues whose lives she has enriched during her remarkable career.
“Emma was a wonderful teacher but most of all she was a lovely person.
“In due course, we will remember Emma and her family in an appropriate manner and in accordance with her family’s wishes. But now we ask that we all be given the time, space and respect we need to deal with this tragic loss.”
Emma was appointed as the first-ever female Head of School in September last year.
Alumni of the school include presenter Jeremy Vine and broadcaster Nicholas Witchell.
The headmistress revealed to students in December that the family had bought a Labrador named Bella to live with them on the school grounds.

She told the school’s podcast, “It’s been a really big change for my family in terms of transition. We moved – we bought a dog.
“I’ve got a new job, my husband has a new job, that wasn’t supposed to happen, but it did, and my daughter has started a new school, so it’s changed a lot for us as a family.”
