An angry fan came all the way down from the plush hospitality box to exchange a stern word with another supporter.

The incident prompted Currie and Cooper to jump into the crowd to defuse the situation.

According to The Mirror, Cooper shouted towards the box “as if the disgruntled spectator was a member of his party”.

Currie and Cooper, 23 and 33 respectively, were eventually persuaded to leave the scene of the excitement and return to the dressing room.

Warrington boss Daryl Powell said of the incident: I don’t really know the whole situation there. But you don’t want to see that, do you?

“I understand everyone’s frustrated because people want to pay their money and see a winning team, right?

“And they have every right to vent their frustration. I don’t think they have the right to get physical with anyone.

Warrington’s smash against the Big Four rivals was her fourth loss at the trot.

Powell said, “Whether that happened or not, I don’t know. But if it does, it shouldn’t be, because whether it’s the players’ families or whoever, we can’t have that. It’s just not on.

“The players put their bodies at risk. Sometimes it’s difficult to make sure they’re doing everything right.

“When you play rugby, it’s a tough sport out there. And we don’t want that. We want all of our fans to be happy and enjoy what they see.

“It’s inconsistent at the moment. And we have to do it more consistently.”

Powell was less than impressed with his troops’ recent poor performance, admitting, “It hurts like hell. I thought Leeds were excellent tonight. I think we’re up and down

“We’re training pretty well but it didn’t translate into a performance tonight.

“In the second half we had 11 sets and played 4 to the end, so you don’t win a game. Some important lessons for us.

“We’re on a journey, I understand the frustration of the fans.

“The frustrating thing is you see a pretty good performance against St Helens and tonight it clearly wasn’t good enough.

“In terms of consistency, we still have to improve a lot.”
