Englewood cops shoot, killing man who allegedly threatened armed robbery


A man who allegedly threatened to rob a person at gunpoint died after Englewood police officers shot him dead on Saturday.
Officers were called to a motel at 4575 South Broadway around 12:40 p.m. after a 911 caller said the man pointed a gun at them and threatened to rob and shoot them, the Englewood Police Department said in a press release with. The man then left the area on foot.

Responding officers found the man near Broadway and Princeton Avenue, and he ran north down the alley toward Oxford Avenue.
The officers chased him on foot and confronted him near the Oxford/Broadway intersection, where they shot him. Neither officer was injured, but the man was taken to a hospital and died.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave and the 18th Circuit Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the shooting.
