FA BOSSES faces a hostile battle with Russia to host Euro 2028.
Uefa chiefs are understood to be interested in the 5 countries’ tender – Great Britain and Ireland – after signaling there would be no consequences to the chaos and carnage of the Euro 2020 final.
But now they have to face the prospect Russia poses a challenge before the March 23 deadline.
And with the tensions between The Governments of the United Kingdom and Moscow are tough on the possibility of invading Ukraineit could see the Wembley chiefs once again catching up with global politics.
FA CEO Mark Bullingham confirmed the five host federations had agreed to drop the proposal to host the 2030 World Cup to focus on Euro 2028.
“For the euro, we have a clearer bidding schedule, and when we evaluate everything, we can come up with a highly competitive bid,” he said.
“It is always about the possibility of winning. Uefa has been very transparent with all 55 countries that they want to use the Euro 2024 and 2028 to rebuild coffers and the reserves they have to use during the pandemic.
“We were able to put together an extremely strong tournament with really strong margins commercially for Uefa – and feel that puts us in a strong position.

“This is the third largest sporting event in the world and we have a good opportunity to bring it to our countries and make a wide positive impact.
“The economy is really positive, it’s going to have an impact on getting people out, being active and playing football is going to be really positive as well. We are extremely excited. ”
Italy and Turkey are expected to bid for the 2032 event but while Uefa’s senior commander is likely to lobby for a five-nation bid, a Russian campaign could split turn to Europe.
Russia has only Uefa’s March 23 deadline to submit its bid, and the FAs in the British Isles hope that by showing their hand now, they can force Moscow to withdraw.
Uefa is expected to confirm Euro 2028 will be expanded from 24 teams to 32, although that will only mean 12 extra games compared to the current tournament model.
The British-led bid will see matches take place in all five countries, with Casement Park, home of Gaelic sports in Ulster, emerging as the most viable Belfast option.
But the majority of games will be played in England, with the final at Wembley, despite the carnage of the Euro 2020 final last summer.
Bullingham added: “We faced a perfect storm that day but Uefa director Aleksander Ceferin said it would not have any impact on any bids.”
