ECUADOR are set to be eliminated from the World Cup tomorrow – with a potential knock-on effect for England in Qatar.
Byron Castillo played in eight of his 18 qualifying games.
It is understood that Fifa has ruled that the Ecuadorian right-back is ineligible to play because he was in fact born in Colombia.
This means that all matches he has played in will be settled as 0-3 losses for Ecuador.
That moves them out of the fourth automatic qualifier.
They would then be replaced by Chile, although Peru finished fifth.
With all the changed results, the Chileans would move up from sixth to fourth place and take Ecuador’s spot in Group A.
They were drawn at the World Cup draw in April alongside hosts Qatar, Holland and Senegal.
And with Gareth Southgate’s England in Group B and due to play a side from Group A in the Round of 16, it could mean the Three Lions meet a side who were EXCLUDED in April’s draw.
Fifa announced last month that they had launched a formal disciplinary procedure “in relation to the player’s possible ban”.

Chile’s two losses to Ecuador were in games Castillo played in, meaning they traded six points in their favor overnight.
Peru have argued that they should be the beneficiaries as they finished ahead of Chile in the original table.
The Peruvians are currently playing Australia in one of the two intercontinental play-offs next week to determine the final two finalists.
They have urged Fifa to promote them and push Chile into the play-offs instead, but Chile, whose FA boss met world boss Gianni Infantino in Paris last week, is believed to be ready to enter the tournament straight away to become.
