England are ready to unleash record goalscorer Scarratt on Scotland after recovering from a miracle injury

ENGLAND twice beat mighty New Zealand in the autumn and now the world’s best player is back to make them even more terrifying.

The Red Roses romped to two record victories over world champion Black Ferns without center Emily Scarratt.

England’s record points-scorer has been sidelined since suffering a horrific compound fracture and dislocation of her left ankle in the first game of the Premier 15 season in September.

But the Loughborough Lightning ace, 32, made an early return and will start in the No13 shirt in tonight’s Six Nations opener against Scotland.

England have been unbeaten in 18 tests since 2019 and are favorites to win their fourth straight Six Nations title.

And head coach Simon Middleton is looking forward to having the 2019 World Player of the Year back in the squad.

He said: “We will manage them and monitor them carefully. She trained fantastically well. She has built up her training volume.

“Like Loughborough, we would have liked to have gotten that extra game for them before the Six Nations.

“But with the way we train, we feel comfortable that we have the volume that we need for them.

“If she plays the whole game depends on how we run and how Scotland runs and of course how she runs.

“We’re delighted to have her back, she brings that class and quality to the set-up. We’re very happy for her considering the horrible injury. It’s great that she’s come back and looks in great shape.”

Scarratt’s return comes at the right time as England look to kick-start a great year for women’s football with the World Cup in New Zealand in the autumn.

Middleton added: “We go into this year’s Six Nations with some clear goals in terms of the improvements we seek to make in our performances.

“The players have crystal clear ideas about how we want to play and how we want our game to look.

“What we need to figure out now is which players can bring the best version of our game to the pitch when the big occasion comes around.”

Scotland go into tonight on a high after earning their World Cup spot by beating Colombia earlier this year.

But you have to go all the way back to 1999 when the Red Roses scored 50 points in their last three meetings, the last time they beat England.

Jade Konkel will be key to Scotland’s hopes after returning to international rugby last year after a sabbatical – during which the 28-year-old trained to become a firefighter.

The No 8 Harlequins wins their 50th cap and faces an intriguing back row battle with England skipper Sarah Hunter.

Scotland manager Bryan Easson paid tribute to Konkel, saying: “Reaching 50 caps for your country is a significant milestone for any player and I’m delighted to see Jade achieving that honor this weekend.”
