Emerson Royal will miss most of the season after undergoing knee surgery in a heavy hit against Tottenham

EMERSON ROYAL needs surgery after suffering a knee injury while playing for Brazil.
The 24-year-old Tottenham full-back limped off in the Samba Boys’ 2-1 friendly defeat by Morocco on Saturday.

He will now go under the knife in London with his recovery time expected to take up to six weeks.
That timeframe should mean he’ll be back for the final few games of the season, but he’ll miss a significant chunk of the remaining ten games.
Royal had only just earned a recall to his national team after a torrid February for his club which saw him nominated for Premier League Player of the Month.
He scored the opener in the 2-0 win against West Ham earlier this month and was a key player in the 1-0 win over Manchester City.
However, he was left out of the starting XI in favor of Pedro Porro, who signed in January.
Tottenham are currently without a manager following the departure of Antonio Conte on Sunday night.
The Italian has been relieved of his duties after weeks of brutally publicly criticizing the Spurs blowers.
Royal had a good relationship with his former manager, although he admitted he could be very “explosive”.
He told Globo Esporte: “As for Conte, I have a good relationship with him, he’s not the coach we have a very close relationship with, talk a lot, it’s his way,
“He’s a coach who wants to help everyone, instructs, shows everyone the role they want.
“I don’t see a problem, I have a good relationship with him.
“Conte is a coach who has this explosive side to him, a personality he created, but he’s a coach who tries to help us as much as possible.”
Tottenham will be back in action next Monday, traveling to Goodison Park to take on Premier League contenders Everton.
