An emergency evacuation of a town has occurred after a man burst into a police station and attacked a police officer before being assigned to duty.
Emergency crews then stretched cords away from Oldham town center while they searched a “suspicious” vehicle – with people ordered to avoid the area.
The man broke into the premises of Oldham Police Station in Greater Manchester just before 10pm on Tuesday as nearby buildings were evacuated.
He was arrested by police, who used a task force on him after he assaulted an officer.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of causing murder and assaulting a police officer and was found in a closed house.
Some roads remained closed as teams of experts examined a “suspicious” vehicle.
Greater Manchester Police said the vehicle is believed to be the man’s.
A spokesman told Manchester Evening News: “Just before 10pm tonight (January 4), a male entered the Oldham Police Department area.
“Nam was arrested on suspicion of committing a crime, assaulting a police officer and was found in a closed area. During the arrest, he was assigned a task.
“A vehicle was found nearby believed to be the man’s.
“A safety line is put in place while the items inside the vehicle are checked by specialist GMP officers.
“Some roads are closed and some facilities have been evacuated.”
