ELON Musk has said he’s leaning toward supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, rather than Donald Trump, for the 2024 presidential election.
The Tesla mogul tweeted that he had voted Republican for the first time in Texas’ special election held on Tuesday.
Mayra Flores is expected to win the special election in the 34 statesth Congressional district flipping a longtime Democratic seat.
Musk tweeted, “I voted for Mayra Flores – first time I’ve voted Republican.”
He predicted there would be a “massive red wave” in 2022.
The revelation sparked a flurry of comments online, with one asking who Musk is “leaning towards” ahead of 2024.
He replied, “DeSantis.”
Musk announced that he supported Andrew Yang in the 2020 election, but said DeSantis had “a better chance of winning” in 2024.
DeSantis has consistently brushed off speculation that he could make a bid for the White House.
He was quizzed on Fox and Friends last weekend and replied: “The interesting thing about me is that people will always splash my name just based on what I do in Florida.”
He said there was a “big chance” for a red wave in the midterms.
A Straw poll conducted by the Western Conservative Summit in Colorado found that 71 percent of respondents supported DeSantis’ run.
He was four percentage points ahead of Trump.
And a poll by conservative radio station WBOB of 700 people found DeSantis outperformed Trump by 53 to 47.
But DeSantis downplayed the impact of polls as he remained coy about his future aspirations.
He said: “I don’t do straw polls. They just put my name in these things, you know? It’s just so what should I do?
“As if they were selling goods and everything. I would like to get royalties for it.”
And despite the speculation, Trump has not explained his bid to retake the White House in 2024.
Musk’s revelation comes just weeks after he verbally pledged to vote for the GOP.
He told hosts of the All-In podcast, “I have historically voted overwhelmingly for Democrat. Since I’m not sure, I might never have voted Republican, just to be clear.”
He claimed the Democrats were controlled by the unions and lawyers.
Musk called unions “another form of monopoly” — a jab at worker groups currently embroiled in union-led struggles against big companies like Amazon and Starbucks.
But he has blasted Republicans for their tendency toward “religious bigotry.”
