Elon Musk cuts the price of Starlink broadband by 30% – and people are switching

ELON Musk’s satellite internet company Starlink has slashed broadband prices for Britons by a third.
Starlink, owned by Musk’s rocket company SpaceX, was originally launched to bring broadband to remote areas.

Starlink now has around 3,900 low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites, with approval already granted for deployment of around 7,500 more by the end of 2027.
A standard package offers unlimited usage, fast latency of 25-50 ms, advertised downloads of around 50-200 Mbit/s and uploads of around 5-15 Mbit/s.
From today, Brits can access the service for a ‘limited’ time for a one-off cost of £300 instead of £460, alongside the monthly fee.
UK customers typically pay around £75 a month, plus £460 for the regular home kit, which includes the satellite dish and router.
Starlink has not specified how long the offer will last.
However, the company is notoriously lenient with its terminations, so customers don’t have to worry about being locked into contracts.
“Long-term contracts prevent both parties from making meaningful changes when necessary,” the company writes on its website.
“It’s a fair deal both ways. Starlink may adjust the terms and pricing as needed, and customers may cancel at any time and for any reason.
“Try any Starlink service for 30 days and if you don’t like it, return it for a full refund.”
Starlink broadband can also be moved and used on the go with a portability add-on or the company’s Roam subscription.
In a Starlink Facebook group, one user said the drop in prices is tempting him to give up his more traditional broadband provider.
“Now Starlink has lowered the hardware price, which I want to seriously consider,” they wrote.
“I currently have BT with 20mg download (on a good day) which can be an issue when multiple TVs are streaming.”
A new customer wrote on Twitter that the satellite internet alternative was better suited to life in the countryside.
“After dealing with rubbish in the countryside for far too many years, we finally went and got it @SpaceX Starlink. All I can say so far is WOW,” they wrote.
“The only gripe I have is that the Starlink showed up but the wall mount and LAN port are a week ahead of delivery.”
However, some still consider the price too expensive.
