Hard to believe, we’re just a few months away from FromSoftware’s next big pain release date, Elden Ring. Hidetaka Miyazaki’s open world sequel to his previous games like Dark Soulssand Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has been one of the most anticipated games of the past few years, so it’s exciting to know that it’s almost ready to launch and punish us all.
To further prove the fact that Elden Ring is real and coming soon, ESRB Rating for the game was recently posted on their website for all to see. In what should come as no surprise, it sounds bloody and brutal.
The review details many of the gory and nasty things we can expect to experience firsthand. One thing that stands out in particular is the Elden Ring collection, which appears to include severed fingers and tongues. It’s not explained how you came across these items, but your character will seem to have an odd amount of them rolling around in their pocket. That might come as a shock to anyone who hasn’t played a FromSoftware game before, but for those of us who’ve worked our way through the entire Souls series, this feels like a day. other at the office.
In addition to the acquisition of countless body parts, the ESRB rating also mentions other gruesome features such as “the boss character cuts off his own arm” and “the severed arm hangs from the ceiling.” Consider that Elden Ring’s Story Trailer featured an image of a character reattaching their arm, it’s safe to assume that the detachable arm is an important part of the story or game. After all, Sekiro focuses quite a bit on the protagonist’s prosthetic limbs. Either that or Miyazaki is just a huge fan of people having their hands cut off, which seems pretty cool to him.
The last piece of information that the ESRB deems worth mentioning is “a anthropomorphic monster depicted partially nude, with scales/scars covering the chest and pelvic area” and there will be some occasional swearing throughout. when in conversation. Once again, after witnessing the horrors of the bosses of Bloodborne, a slightly naked boss with scales seems quite tame. Also interesting is that after many descriptions of horrific violence in this rating, it was limited to saying that the word obscene for crap was used. It’s hard to understand how someone would be offended by an occasional curse word after spending hours cutting and collecting body parts.
Hearing about our future thumb and tongue collection only furthers our expectations for the Elden Ring. Although the FromSoftware formula has not been used in an open world environment before, they have put a lot of effort into their formerly dark and dull world. We have no doubt that the Elden Ring will bring us plenty of disturbing and disturbing lore along with its frenzied, savage fighting. With George RR Martin providing some extra flavor to the story, this can turn out to be a beautiful yet deeply sad masterpiece.
Elden Ring is currently slated to launch on February 25, 2022 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
