Eight years after his winning goal against Lionel Messi and Co. for Germany in the 2014 final, MARIO GOTZE celebrated Argentina’s World Cup victory with his son.
The Eintracht Frankfurt ace, 30, scored the winning goal in the maracana late in extra time to earn Germany a fourth star.
Götze missed out on Germany’s 2018 World Cup squad but returned this year, playing twice in the group stage.
But Germany missed a KO place against Spain and Japan.
And while Gotze spent some family time with his stunning wife Ann-Kathrin Brommel and son Rome, he supported Argentina in their quest for World Cup glory.
Argentina took a 3-3 lead twice in the thriller and won the penalty shoot-out 4-2.
Messi scored twice in 120 minutes and set the tone in the shoot-out, as a captain should.
And Götze was more than pleased to see Messi finally win a world crown.
Götze and Rom celebrated Argentina’s win with glee and the footballer even posted an edited photo of a smiling 35-year-old Messi comforting his younger self from 2014.
Messi said in an Instagram post with almost 41 million likes: “CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!!!
