RESIDENT said they were driven around by eight giant 20mph signs painted in their small sewer.
People who live on a single-lane road say they are ugly and “a waste of money”.
Resident Tracey Gauld, 49, told The Sun: “It’s what you’d expect on a motorway, not a minor motorway.
“You can’t get to 20mph. Why do it?”
“It’s completely crazy. Strange. We couldn’t believe it.”
“There must have been a team of four or five people on a pencil and they literally had to try to use paint,” says Tracey.
“They come back in half an hour, forty-five minutes and go.”
Tracey said that none of the residents were consulted before they started painting the sign.
Tracey added: “Obviously people doing that are being abused a lot by people because they’re saying what the hell are you doing, why are you putting it here, it’s a spinning block and they just know where to put them.
“What the hell are they thinking?
“It’s a council horror story.”
London’s Waltham Forest, which painted them in Hurst Close, Chingford, says the signs cost £60 each and it follows government regulations on size.
