ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar) – Around 8:55 a.m. Friday, the Odessa Police Department responded to Burger King on 42nd Street after an altercation broke out between dozens of students.
An OPD spokesman said two students were arrested and an investigation into the incident is underway.
In a statement to us, Ector County ISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri said, “This senseless act of violence is completely unacceptable and describes a group of our students badly. Best. We apologize to Burger King employees and patrons who witnessed this terrible incident. We are cooperating with the Odessa Police Department and understand that there will be criminal charges. In addition, we will have school discipline in place for all involved. We will also work with the students involved and their parents to ensure that all understand this type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. An incident like this takes a toll on all of us and we have to work to regain our image in the eyes of the community.”
Dr. Muri said the behavior shown by those in the fight today did not reflect the majority of ECISD students.
“Today, 99% of our students went to school and had a great school day. And that is the expectation we have of our students every day,” he said.
Business owners in the area reported fighting in the parking lot and inside their premises several times a week.
