Kym Marsh joins Waterloo Road

Soap star Kym Marsh will join the cast of school drama Waterloo Road, the BBC has announced.

The former Coronation Street actress will play Nicky Walters, a mother of two and a school cafeteria worker.

The news comes as the film has just begun filming in Greater Manchester.

EastEnders actress Jo Coffey also joins the school as Wendy Whitwell, PA for principal Kim Campbell, while Vincent Jerome will play vice principal Lindon King, with James Baxter as vice principal Joe Casey.

It was previously announced that Angela Griffin would return as the head of Ms Campbell, while Adam Thomas would return as Donte Charles and Katie Griffiths would return as Chlo Charles.

Coronation Street’s Sonia Ibrahim will also star as Jamilah Omar, the school’s social worker, while Shauna Shim will play music teacher Valerie Chambers, and Neil Fitzmaurice has been cast as Neil Guthrie, a history teacher school.

Last Tango In Halifax actress Rachel Leskovac will play the head of English Coral Walker, while Katherine Pearce will take on the role of a rookie teacher.
