Dustin Poirier weighs in on the thrilling back-and-forth fight between Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler

Dustin Poirier brought him in epic trilogy war between Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler at UFC 268.

Widely hailed as one of the best MMA fights of 2021, the lightweight bout saw Gaethje defeat Chandler via unanimous decision.

In an appearance on Time MMA with Ariel Helwani, Poirier spoke on many topics. ‘The Diamond’ states:

“Yeah, man, it’s fun to watch.” Revealing what he was thinking as he watched the battle, Poirier said, “Damn it. This is bad for you. That’s what I’m thinking. Crazy guys, man; take such damage, you know. But I think I beat both of those guys. If they fought me the way they fought that night, I would have beaten both of them.”

Ariel Helwani notes that the reckless fighting style that Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler adopted at UFC 268 is good for a certain level of fighting. However, such recklessness may not be suitable for a title fight, Helwani added.

Dustin Poirier defeats Gaethje in 2018, but haven’t played Chandler yet. Despite that, he notes that he’s equally confident about beating them both. Poirier also agrees with Helwani’s style assessment and explains:

“No you can not. You have to tighten it up. You must be more technical. You must be a thinking man; not just a brute in it, not just a devastating ball, you know. Or, you go in there and feel tired. And that’s what I would do with those guys if they fought me that way.”
