‘Drag Race’ Summary: Season 14 Episode 2 – Maddy Morphosis Is Straight

Just when I thought TV was running out of potential upcoming stories to tell, RuPaul’s Drag Race proved me wrong on Friday with the touching story of a man who just wanted to be accepted… for being outspoken.

Maddy Morphosis‘groundbreaking sexuality was all one could tweet when casting for Season 14 was announced last month. A transgender drag queen? Inconceivable! And while fans continue to debate who should or should not be allowed to manipulate on social media (lame!), it should be noted that her opponents appear to be perfectly fine with it. Oops, some very playful realities about sharing mirror space with a graceful and haughty woman.

“I don’t feel the need to clarify my gender,” the 26-year-old Arkansas native explained at the beginning of Friday’s episode, the epilogue to this season’s two premieres. “I really want the first impression girls have of me is the content of my manipulative.” And we can all agree that Maddy made quite the impression with that Guy Fieri-inspired entrance. Let’s be honest, only a straight man think do that.

That said… Oops! Mama Ru kinda-sorta eliminated Maddy by promoting her sexuality in the werkroom, prompting a flurry of reactions from the other contestants. Initial responses ranged from “Wow!” to a simple stunned silence, but in the end it was all about love. “That makes me really respect her,” admitted Lady Camden, while Angeria Paris VanMicheals took it a step further, saying, “I think it’s horrible that Maddy is a heterosexual man from a small town in the south and wants to be a sick drag queen at the same time. No one said it couldn’t be done! ”

And as far as I know, Maddy has proven her worth this week. She’s no Prince, but I was thrilled with her moody guitar playing during the talent show, but the Marie Antoinette-inspired runway look was stunning. Even Michelle Visage hailed it as something she had “never seen on the main stage before”. (For Maddy’s sake, we’ll pretend Michelle isn’t up to it by saying, “I can see that you need some help with your makeup.”

Drag race part 14Okay, now that we’ve tackled the heterosexual elephant in the gym, let’s discuss this week’s MVP – Atlanta’s very own Angeria Paris VanMicheals! “Southern Woman from ATL” caught our attention right from the dance with her warmth, humor, and ferocity. And that appreciation apparently extended to Mama Ru, who declared Angela the winner in both minis. and max challenge this week.

It’s a well-deserved double win, from that quirky photo shoot (“I’ve got Tic Tacs at the right age!”) to her energetic performance of her original song. . (One of the best drag queen songs I’ve ever heard? Check it out!) Seriously, you know you’re doing it right when the judges are reading the lyrics to your music on Day 1. The cherry on top of the triumphant Angeria premiere was her “wine-delicious” look, a stunning display of competition and charm. So cute.

Other compliments go to Jasmine Kennedie, who has an impressive routine (a six-inch back-heel jump to a song in Hotel Transylvania 2 soundtrack?!) and Queen– her exhilarating looks make her the main contender for this week’s winner. And like the judges, I am also developing a soft perspective for Jorgeous.

Unfortunately, as well as having a high for each Drag racing debut, must also have the low. DeJa Skye and Daya Betty (aka Crystal Methyd’s drag sister!) were placed in the bottom two teams, forcing them to face Alicia Keys’ lip-syncing “Fallin”… in front of Alicia Keys. A nightmare! Sadly, I can’t say that neither of them deserve to be there; Neither DeJa’s baffling sense of humour, nor Daya’s “Start the Party” attempt did anything for me. Or the judges.

Slower songs don’t always make for the best lip-syncs, but are a hit for DeJa to keep things interesting with plenty of emotion and some funny (and dramatic) beats. statue). I also have to say goodbye to Daya for daring to reveal her cracks. Always a brave choice.

DeJa named this week’s lip-sync winner, leave Daya Betty let sashay go as Monday the first queen to leave Season 14 (Don’t forget about Orion Story!)
