‘Dr. Phil accused of toxic workplace, racism, verbal abuse

Another daytime TV star is facing claims of fostering a toxic work environment.

A dozen present and former Dr. Phil Staff talk News about BuzzFeed that they faced verbal abuse from high-profile producers, experienced racism behind the scenes, and witnessed guests being manipulated and treated in an immoral manner. described the environment as “chaotic”, “hostile” and “overbearing”. Host Dr Phil McGraw has not been personally accused of any malicious or abusive conduct, but staff say being harassed by executive producer Carla Pennington and other senior staff members scolding and scolding is very normal. Some staff members said they were encouraged to use racist stereotypes on the show and discouraged from booking people of color as guests. One even alleged that they were instructed to make sure a guest didn’t take her prescription medication “because they wanted her to look unsettled”.

Representatives for McGraw and the program deny all claims in the article. “Dr. McGraw categorically denies racist conduct, and CBS does not tolerate racist behavior,” McGraw attorney H. Patrick Morris said in a statement. He added that Pennington “has complete confidence in Dr. McGraw… The allegations against her are absurd and untrue.”

A program spokesperson also responded to the story, calling it a “click” and noting: “From the outset, program executives worked to create a secure, collaborative environment. safe and open to Dr. Phil McGraw and all staff and guests.”

Organized by McGraw Dr. Phil since 2002, making it one of the top compiled daytime shows on TV. He currently has a multi-year deal with CBS producers that will keep Dr. Phil will be broadcast in the 2022-23 TV season.
