BORUSSIA DORTMUND announce the signing of striker Anthony Modeste.
Modeste joins after inking a one-year deal with the Black and Yellows.
The 34-year-old was called in as an emergency replacement for Sebastien Haller, who was diagnosed with a testicular tumor earlier in the summer.
Haller joined the club from Ajax for a reported fee of £27million.
But following his diagnosis, the German club were forced to look for a replacement and ended up with Cologne striker Modeste.
In a statement on the club’s website, Dortmund said: “Borussia Dortmund has responded to Haller’s long absence when he was ill and signed a center forward in Modeste.
“The 34-year-old Frenchman, who is moving from 1. FC Köln, completed his medical check-up in Dortmund today and signed a one-year contract in the evening.”
Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl adds: “After analyzing the past season, we made a conscious decision in favor of a more classic striker who gives our offensive game a certain physicality, header power and goal threat.
“Against the background of Haller’s illness, we are pleased that we were able to bring such a striker into our squad in Modeste at short notice for the current season.
“A seasoned professional who knows the Bundesliga very well, who scored 20 goals last season and who, with his profile, can play exactly the role that our coach Edin Terzic envisions for BVB football.”

Modeste has scored 99 goals in 189 games in the Bundesliga and previously played for Blackburn Rovers in 2012 where he made nine appearances.
Cologne are expected to receive just over £4.2million from the transfer.
But head coach Steffen Baumgart described the deal as “sick” as he loses his side’s top scorer from last season – Modeste has scored 20 in 32 games.
