Search for missing British journalist Dom Philips has reportedly found HUMAN remains.
Veteran foreign correspondent Dom Phillips, 57, disappeared with his guide, Bruno Pereira, 41, an expert on Brazil’s indigenous tribes.
Search teams have now found “apparently human” organic material in a river where they both disappeared on Sunday.
Police also said in a statement that they had collected genetic material from the missing duo.
Investigators will compare it to blood found on the boat of a fisherman being held as a suspect in the investigation.
Amariledo ‘Pelado’ da Costa has been arrested for enforced disappearance after blood was found on his wooden boat.
Police were granted an additional 30 days to detain him pending further investigation.
He was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with illegal possession of drugs and restricted ammunition.
Police have indicated that da Costa was one of the last people to see Philips and Pereira around 6am on Sunday.
Both men disappeared after visiting the riverside fishing community of São Gabriel.
Detectives have been given an extra 30 days as he is involved in the possible “heinous crime” of murder and hiding bodies.
Brazilian media claim witnesses saw da Costa with a shotgun just before the men disappeared.
And another witness described him as a “very dangerous man”.
