Will the Eagles run healthy again for the Jets game? originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
The No. 1 onslaught in the NFL is experiencing a shortage.
This week, The Eagles’ ability to run deep is hurting. Boston Scott hasn’t trained for a week because of an illness. Jordan Howard will miss the second week in a row with a knee injury. Miles Sanders hopes to play Sunday against the Jets but has had to deal with an ankle injury that has sidelined him for three games and forced him out of the game against the Giants early on Sunday.
This leaves rookie Kenny Gainwell the only healthy person back on the list. And he has had four carries since October.
Scott is listed as questionable for the Jets, and Sanders has no injury designation after fully participating in Friday’s practice. The Eagles will likely drop Jason Huntley from the practice team, but they’ll have to hope Sanders can make it through a healthy game and Scott get over his illness the next day or else the cupboard will be empty by Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The Eagles lead the NFL in dash speed with 158 yards per game, the most in 12 games since 1950.
Jalen Hurts leads the Eagles with 695 yards, averaging 5.7 and 8 times TD rush, and he is also dealing with an injury.
Sanders leads the back runs with 458 yards and averaging 5.2, Scott has 285 yards and averaging 4.78 and Howard has 274 yards and averaging 5.4. Gainwell has 155 yards and averages 3.6.
We know Sanders will play and we know Howard won’t. Scott is the wild card.
“We’re still seeing how he continues to recover,” Sirianni said after Friday’s training session.
Huntley, a one-time fifth-round pick for the Lions, played in five games for the Eagles last year and had 19 yards of charge in five attempts. He was on the training team all year after an excellent training camp.
“Speed, a lot of speed,” Sirianni said when asked about Huntley. “I think every time he touches that football you can see how fast he is.
“And, you know, he’s been here. And I really believe we’ve done a great job of giving our young lads more rep to develop. You add five games (additional extra). ) a day that they will foul us or our defense, I think that will increase throughout the year.
“I’m confident he’s in a good room with a good coach and other good players who know how to prepare mentally. So yeah, if Jason’s number is called, I’m really confident. that he’ll be able to step in and do a good job.”
The jet is 27th in the NFL in defensive rush, allowing 129 yards per game and 29th in defense passing at 266 yards per game. They are 31st in terms of defense with 395 points and last in terms of allowed points at 30 per game.
