Latest trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is here, and while Stephen Strange is running into all sorts of trouble, it’s a mysterious voice that grabs the internet’s attention. Around 1:18 in the trailer, an offscreen voice mentions Strange, and the fans seem pretty convincing That’s Patrick Stewart. This could be an unexpected addition to the cast or even the arrival of Fox’s X-Men characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The voice appeared while Strange was in handcuffs. It seems to come from someone who has only one part in the camera – we can see that person’s ears and possibly bald head, which is really good enough to get us excited. The accented British accent says “we should tell him the truth”, which doesn’t reveal much about himself.
Revealing the X-Men in Madness’s Multiverse seems far-fetched, but certainly not impossible. We know the movie went through significant reboots under the direction of director Sam Raimi, and speculations have indicated that these scenes will add new characters to the film. Furthermore, after completing Disney’s 20th Century Fox acquires 20th Century FoxThe X-Men license is within the studio’s control, so mutants both past and present are free to appear whenever Disney chooses.
Of course, the other nearly $2 billion elephant in the room is Spider-Man: There’s no way home, which proves that Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are more than capable of pulling in characters from franchises that no longer exist. The Latest Spider-Man movie also opens up the fantasy of the MCU to all sorts of other worlds and characters – including Venom. With all There is no way homeGiven its success, it seems entirely possible that Disney will be eager to attract a few actors from X Men especially someone like Stewart, who’s been around since the first movie in 2000.
The X-Men’s ultimate cinematic adventure arrives in 2019 with X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Thankfully for Disney, that movie was horribly bombed, so not many people will be excited to follow the plot. Meanwhile, the nearly two-decade-long X-Men franchise is now no stranger to time travel and alternate universes, so jumping into the MCU thanks to Doctor Strange would be a great fit.
This isn’t even the first time Fox’s X-Men universe has made its way into the MCU… that sort of thing. Fox version of Quicksilverplayed by Evan Peters instead of Aaron Taylor-Johnsonalso appear in WandaVision, but only an illusion created by Agatha Harkness. This at least opened the door for the franchises to pass, but didn’t commit to anything as big as Charles Xavier putting Doctor Strange on trial.
While all of these arguments are pretty convincing, they’re also based on a line of dialogue that sounds very British and to the left ear of… someone? This mysterious guest could certainly signal the arrival of Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier and some of his talented young people, or it could just mean a certain lucky actor seems like Professor X and have a role in the new adventure of Doctor Strange.
